Jason Herbstritt: General Sales Manager
Years at the dealership: 12
How has your role changed throughout your time at the dealership: I have been fortunate in my career with St. Marys Auto Group and have worked many different positions. When I was first hired I was hired in our sales department. After a bit, I then went into our Internet Manager role. I then worked into a Sales Manager position. When we opened up our CDJR store I went into the General Manager role. In order to understand the entire operation, I also spent time in our service department in a Service Manager role. Currently, I am working at our Ford store as the General Sales Manager.
What is your favorite part about the automotive industry: As funny as it sounds, I was never really a "car guy" so it's not the cars. It's the people. For me, it is meeting and getting to know our customers and coworkers. The relationships that you build over time with people are really amazing. Some of my best friends actually started out as customers or coworkers. The people are the best parts for sure.
How did you get started in the industry: When I was looking for my first car at 18 I had stopped at a used car dealer. I was becoming a real thorn in their side due to my excitement and was really tying up their sales person week after week looking for a car. After a few weeks the owner asked me if I would be interested in driving cars for them to the auction. After a few months driving and cleaning a position opened up in their finance department and the rest is history. You blink your eyes and you are in the business for almost 25 years.
What does your life look like outside of the dealership: Outside of work I would consider myself a big fan of pop culture and vintage clothes and shoes. I am usually scouring the area to add to my collection. When I return from my adventures I usually spend time with my family while they suffer through endless episodes of "The Office".
What are you most proud of throughout your time at the dealership: I would say being involved in the process of getting our CDJR store off of the ground. It was great to watch it go from a small temporary location into it's current store. A lot of hard work was put in by a lot of individuals who helped with this project. It was amazing to see the customer base grow over time.
What is the most important quality a good leader should have: I would say being humble. I have always felt that being in a management position is privilege. The title is simply that. A title. I believe that a good leader should never forget that they are here to support those who they supervise.
What is one piece of advice you have for first-time car buyers? I would say that patience is key. Do not rush into something because of the excitement. Make sure that vehicle that you are looking at will be a good fit for your lifestyle and budget.
Huge thank you to Jason for his dedication and leadership!
